Investors Seek Justice Against Yamada Taihei Over Alleged Financial Misconduct in Cambodia
(Phnom Penh) – Investors in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. have formally appealed to the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia to intervene in a case involving Yamada Taihei, the company’s Chairman and a Japanese national, who is accused of serious financial misconduct and breach of trust.
According to the investors, Yamada allegedly abused his position to manipulate real estate purchase prices, resulting in an estimated USD 4 million being misappropriated for personal gain. He is also accused of bypassing shareholder authority, fabricating business transactions, and arranging loans exceeding USD 7 million under the names of prominent Japanese companies to mislead investors. Some of the misappropriated funds were reportedly transferred abroad to an account held by his wife, Ye Jun.
The allegations further suggest that Yamada established multiple shell companies in Cambodia, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia, appointing nominees as company representatives while personally controlling all financial operations. These activities are suspected to involve embezzlement, document forgery, and possible money laundering.
In Cambodia, prosecutors have already filed at least two criminal cases against Yamada and his associates, freezing multiple assets and bank accounts, while additional investigations are ongoing. Authorities in several other countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, are reportedly conducting related inquiries.
In their letters, the investors urged Cambodian authorities and courts to ensure a thorough investigation, protect victims’ rights, and hold the accused accountable. They also voiced concerns about possible interference from influential figures that could obstruct justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
The investors called for transparency, accountability, and a fair legal process, emphasizing that the accused and his collaborators must not be allowed to evade responsibility.
